Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Weekly ACT Group
This Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) group focuses on the six main components of ACT.
-
Acceptance means making space for difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, so they have less control over your behavior.
-
Focusing on the here and now helps reduce worry about the past or future and allows for more intentional, grounded responses to life’s challenges.
-
Cognitive defusion helps you separate yourself from unhelpful thoughts and see them as just words or mental events, not absolute truths.
-
This is the idea that you are more than your thoughts, emotions, or experiences—you are the observer of them, with the capacity to choose how you respond.
-
Valued living involves identifying what truly matters to you and using those values as a compass to guide your decisions and actions.
-
Committed action means taking purposeful steps—big or small—toward your values, even in the face of discomfort or obstacles.
This is an open group, so you may jump in at any time, and can repeat the series as desired. Though the topics cycle through in the same order, the discussions of each topic may vary as group member attendance may vary, so you may get something new out of a repeat topic.
Group sessions often include educational discussions, viewing 1-2 short videos, practical applications and activities, and always followed by collaborative discussions processing responses/reactions to the content of group session .
There are no required homework assignments, though putting insights and strategies into practice is encouraged.
If you are not already a client of mine outside the group and are interested in diving deeper by becoming one, you are also welcome to do so!
